Sustainability has been a core value to Cavendish Venues since our formation over 20 years ago. When we first opened in 1995 we could see the huge environmental impact of the hospitality industry. That year we were the first UK conference venue to cut disposable water bottles completely, in favour of on site water filtration. Since then we have worked to progressively mitigate our environmental footprint. Major milestones include, landfill neutral certification 2013, direct offsetting of 100% of our carbon footprint via a tree planting campaign, last year we planted just over a thousand trees.
Over the past few years we have won the Visit London Sustainable Venue of the Year Award twice, and the Conference Awards Sustainable Venue Award, three times. Major initiatives include:
- Absolute commitment to our zero to landfill policy. Recycling routes have been established for all waste streams, including laminated exhibitor materials.
- Year on year reductions in all inputs (energy, water, etc) in the conference centres – E.g. we are now using manned coffee stations rather than coffee machines, latter are more energy inefficient. Menu’s redisigned twice yearly with a view to reducing food waste.
- Localisation of our supplier base to minimise carbon footprint – all meat is now sourced from a single farm less than 50km from our London venues.
- Carbon Neutral. We offset all the carbon generated by our direct operations, we are working to offset the carbon we indirectly generate, ie we have invested in a carbon calculator aimed at calculating the carbon costs of travelling to our venue / producing exhibitor material etc.
We also believe it’s important to have all our achievements independently verified on a regular basis.
“All our delegates love the fact that you have striven for landfill neutrality, and that your ethos has been so sustainable.”
