Exam Venues Across Five Central London Locations
We host exam sittings at all five of our London venues – Hallam Conference Centre in Fitzrovia, Cavendish Conference Centre in Marylebone, Basinghall in the Square Mile, America Square near Tower Hill and the Minster Building in the City. Every venue is within a five-minute walk of a mainline Tube or rail station, which matters more for exams than for most events: candidates arriving late are candidates you have to deal with.
Rooms Laid Out for Invigilation
Exam rooms are set with single forward-facing desks, clear sight-lines for invigilators and controlled entry and exit routes. Rooms are cleared of anything candidates should not see, and bags and phones are held in a supervised cloakroom. Registration desks are set up so ID checking flows without a queue forming on the street.
Computer-Based Testing
For computer-based testing we can provide rooms with hard-wired positions and per-candidate network drops, set up and tested before candidates arrive rather than on the morning. AQA and Pearson Edexcel have each run multiple sittings with us.
Accessibility and Quiet Rooms
Every venue is step-free from entrance to exam room, with separate quiet rooms available for candidates with extra-time or additional-needs arrangements, and rest facilities on the same floor. Awarding bodies are welcome to inspect the venue in advance.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you host computer-based testing (CBT) and professional exams?
Yes. Our exam rooms are laid out to invigilation standards with single-facing desks, spacing between candidates, clear sight-lines for invigilators, wall clocks visible from every seat and controlled entry and exit routes. For CBT sittings we can provide rooms with hard-wired positions, secure Ethernet drops per candidate, isolated network segments and UPS-backed power.
Which exam boards have you hosted?
AQA and Pearson Edexcel have each run multiple exam sittings with us. We also host computer-based testing (CBT) and invigilated professional assessments, and we are happy to work to an awarding body’s own invigilation and chain-of-custody requirements.
Are your exam rooms accessible?
Yes. Every Cavendish venue is step-free from entrance to exam room, hearing loops are fitted in the main rooms, and separate quiet rooms are available for candidates with extra-time entitlements or additional-needs accommodations. Rest facilities, water and quiet waiting areas are on the same floor.
How do you handle exam security and chain of custody?
Exam windows are managed to the minute. Bags and phones are held in a supervised cloakroom. ID checking is set up so registration flows quickly without queues spilling into the street. If your awarding body requires a specific chain-of-custody protocol for papers or test materials, we work to it. Awarding bodies can inspect the venue in advance on request.
What is the capacity for exam sittings in a single room?
Single-room exam capacity depends on the awarding body’s spacing requirement. Under standard invigilation spacing we can seat from 30 up to around 200 candidates in a single room at 1 America Square, with smaller rooms across the other venues seating 20 to 60 for cohort sittings. Larger cohorts are split across parallel rooms with synchronised timing.
Exam sittings need scale, silence and invigilation space. 1 Basinghall Avenue seats 450 and The Minster Building 350 — both among our conference venues in the City of London. All five are on our London conference venues page.
