Troubleshooting tips ahead of your Virtual or Hybrid Event

June 15, 2020

We have all been there, online meetings and webinars when things do not go exactly according to plan. Technology is a glorious thing but it can be infuriatingly frustrating at times. So here are a few tips to overcome some of the more mundane gremlins that can and will happen.

  1. Always use the application with the web browser that the developer of the meeting platform recommends. So if they recommended Chrome for example- use that, it may work in others but for full functionality may only be reached in the recommended web browser.
  2. Still having problems? Another quick trick is to refresh the browser, this usually irons out many issues and is a simple solution
  3. Can’t get you webcam or microphone to work? Then first step is make sure you have activated them in the application control panel. Many online meeting platforms will have your mic muted and webcam in off mode by default- you are required by choice to activate them. Still have issues? Then most platforms will have a settings icon, click it and navigate to Webcam settings and Microphone settings, again assure you have selected the correct webcam and microphone. If you are still having issues, in your system settings your camera and microphone may be deactivated and requires manually turning on; do that by navigating to control panel in your operating system and seek out sound and video settings.

You may also find your audio visual connection is not great due to your internet connection speed. The internet has peak times and internet traffic can be slower during these periods. If you can try to connect via an Ethernet cable to your router, then that can help. But unfortunately there not much can be done with a poor connection no matter what programme, computer or application you use.

At Cavendish Venues we have introduced a simple to use virtual hybrid events platform that allows your online guests to participate more fully in the physical event and is opening up new opportunities for larger audience attendance via this innovative platform – so now your online attendees can feel really part of the conference proceedings and can socially network, contribute and engage with fellow peers, delegates, presenters and sponsors. No download required just send an email link and they will be ready to join in.  With our video capture systems, technician support and 350Mb up speed and down speed internet pipe you can be rest assured we will do everything possible to make your event a resounding success in these transitioning times.

With our awards winning customer service and a great selection of conference rooms, lecture theatres, meeting rooms, workshop spaces, training rooms, auditoriums and exhibition spaces we are already the experts when it comes to hosting live events, and now we are expanding our horizons into virtual and hybrid events world.
