In response to the totally confusing and ill thought about steps our Government have taken to reopening the country and Economy it seems that once again nothing seems to be getting through to the “powers that be”! It really is a shame to think that an industry that has been responsible for bringing in over £70 billion to the UK economy (this figure represents over 50% of visitors spend whilst in the country) we employ over 700,000 people and in turn we generate over £165 Billion in trade as a direct result of business events, that yet again we are left in the lurch with no clear guidance at all, indeed we have been let down once again simply because we do not, it seems to me, SHOUT enough! I spoke before about the UK Horticulture Industry contributing £24 Billion and yet here we are bringing in nigh on £70 Billion directly to our economy and we are not allowed to hold events for more than 30 people. Watch this space but my guess is of the 700,000 people in our sector, it would not be scaremongering to say that that figure will probably drop by up to 50% before it gets better which will take 2-3 years at least assuming we don’t get shut down again!
