Recently our conference venues donated  1000 canapes to Felix Project, to reduce our food waste. They have an impressive 539 suppliers, including supermarkets, wholesalers, farms, delis, and restaurants that donate high-quality and nutritious food, including a high amount of fresh fruit and vegetables, baked goods, salads, meat, and fish.

The Felix project is a London-based charity that rescues leftover food from the food industry and delivers them to more than 1000 leading charities, primary schools, and holiday programmes to help feed local communities.

The charity was inspired by the founder of Felix, Justin Byam Shaw’s son, who died suddenly from Meningitis in 2014 and he had a huge compassion for the opposing team who were not able to have anything to eat on that day of their football tournament. Shaw thought this was a great way to honour his son by supporting those who are less fortunate.

There are 4.7 million adults in the UK who struggle to afford to eat every day, and 2 million children are at risk of missing their next meal. In the meantime, the food industry discards 3 million tonnes of good, edible leftover food each year.

Then they sort out the food and after that, they deliver this food to around 1000 front-line charities, primary schools, and holiday programmes in London. This way, it prevents food from going to waste and instead it reaches vulnerable people, the homeless, people with mental health or those who cannot afford to buy healthy food.

The vision Felix Project has is they believe no one goes hungry and good food is never wasted in London. They also believe if we can do this together, we can win the fight against food waste and hunger in London.
