Covid vaccine can prevent 90% of people from getting the virus
Today marks an important milestone in the fight with Coronavirus as preliminary analysis suggests coronavirus vaccine can prevent more than 90% of people from getting the virus.
Vaccine developed by Pfizer and NioNTech has been tested on 43,538 people in US, Germany, Brazil, Argentina, South Africa and Turkey and only 94 people contracted Covid-19. As there are no safety concerns, the pharmaceutical companies are planning to apply for emergency approval and hopefully start rolling out vaccines within a month.
The developers described it as “great day for science and humanity”
UK has initially secured 40 million doses, which would vaccinate 20 million people and there is a good chance 10 million could be vaccinated by the end of the year if approved in time.
The journey ahead is still complicated and long, but today we can celebrate a huge achievement in science and the start of recovery.
This breakthrough is also very promising for events sector with Informa plc, Compass Group and InterContinental Hotel Group being the high risers on the FTSE100 share index once the findings were announced.
