COVID Updates – Conferences Changes

January 20, 2022

Conferences safer than ever before.

As COVID becomes an endemic, PM Boris Johnson has declared new changes to our fight against COVID-19, shining hope for conferences venues. Delivering the fastest booster programme in Europe, as well as introducing the ‘Get Boosted Now’ scheme, together with the public response – we can return to Plan A regulations in England. Taking considerate approaches and following the safety regulation protocols means for us that events at Cavendish Conference Venues can and will continue in full swing.

Starting from Monday 17th January 2022, the isolation period has been reduced to five full days with two negative lateral flow tests. As we see COVID fighting a losing battle, it will be a necessity to replace legal requirements with advice and guidance on how to stay careful and considerate of others. This means washing hands, letting fresh air in, getting tested, self-isolating if positive, and wearing a face covering in crowded and enclosed areas. Let’s keep life and events flowing the way we successfully have been.

“Vaccination continues to remain our best defence against COVID-19 and people are urged to Get Boosted Now” says Secretary of State for Health and Social Care the Rt Hon Sajid Javid MP.

Get Boosted Now!

Due to the incredible success of the booster programme, with over 30.5 million boosters given in England, our situation continues to improve for both conferences and businesses.

Thanks to the accessibility of lateral flow tests (LFT), people self-isolating with COVID-19 can now end their isolation after five full days, provided they test negative on day 5 and 6. Contacts who are fully vaccinated can avoid isolation given they are taking the LFT tests daily, and most of those testing positive on an LFT no longer must confirm their case with a PCR test. Testing has been essential for hosting events and regaining our lives back, allowing the government to take a proportionate approach to restoring individuals’ freedoms, which is what we all need.

The COVID Endemic – Return to Plan A.

On Wednesday 19th January 2022, the government had announced that England will fully return to Plan A on Thursday 27th January, thanks to the successes of the booster programme, with ministers urging anyone who has still not had a top-up jab to come forward and Get Boosted Now.

While vaccinations remain a priority, the undoubtful benefits of the vaccination programme means we can slowly transfer back into Plan A In England.

This means the changes include:

  • Beginning Wednesday 19th January, you are no longer required to work from home if you can. People are advised to arrange with their employers about the return to the office and should follow the ‘Working Safely’ guidance.
  • Starting from Thursday 20th January, face covering will no longer be mandatory in classrooms for both staff and pupils. However, it’s advised that you wear a face covering in crowded and enclosed areas.
  • From Thursday 27th January, conferences, and events venues will no longer be required by law to use the NHS Covid Pass. However, the pass can still be used voluntarily as was previously the case in Plan A.

Better Conferences always.

Although face coverings are no longer required by law in any setting, Public health guidance will remain in place at our events space, suggesting individuals should continue to wear a face covering where possible, especially where you encounter new people.

“A pandemic is a marathon not a sprint. Even on this day of progress, I’d urge everyone to think about what they can do to keep the virus at bay. But the best step that we can all take is to get vaccinated. It was the jabs that have got us this far, and the jabs can keep us here too.” – Secretary of State for Health and Social Care the Rt Hon Sajid Javid MP.
