With the endless gloomy news streams we are bombarded with day in and day out, it is easy to succumb to the negative interpretations that surround us. The events and hospitality sector has taken a very hard blow along with every other part of the economy. But this public health emergency will ease and sooner or later life will return to normality and so will conferences and events. People need to be around one another, we work, learn and collaborate better when we are together, human beings are social animals and no pandemic, social distancing measures or technical advances will ever change that.

With that said, we all know we will have to abide and follow social distancing guidelines while the nation returns to its feet and finds a way out of this crisis.  We are preparing to open our doors once more and welcome back our valued customers at our conference venues and once again to be in position to offer conference and meeting space facilities in a safe environment. Our team at Cavendish Venues have been seeking solutions to the logistical challenges ahead.  Venue delegation numbers for a time at least will need to be limited, but that does not mean we need to limit the potential your events can deliver to a wider audience. There are countless streaming and webinar offerings on the market and we’ve been trolling through many of them endlessly over the past month or two and they all have pros, cons and pitfalls.  I think if you put into prospective that you can not 100% replace the in-venue hospitality experience, but accept there is some compromise, you can seek a viable alternative route. Hybrid conferences take the streaming & webinar broadcasting model to a different level introducing video interactivity. We are integrating such a model into our audio visual services at Cavendish Conference Venues. We can now offer video enabled networking between the online guests as well as sponsorship booths and of course the usual presentation delivery features we all know. With this video interactivity element, we believe it goes some way for the online participants to feel part of the physical conference, it can never replace “being there” at the conference venue, but it certainly goes down that road some distance. With added features such as breakout room participation, networking areas, exhibition spaces and utilising online apps we are in position to upgrade the online webinar experience to something a little closer to the real thing. In a small way it is a stepping stone in helping the meeting and events industry get back up and moving again once more.
