Can We Hold Events – YES – numbers only limited by social distancing of 1m
Boris Johnson introduced the so-called rule of 6 with its surrounding legislation on the 14th of September. This limits gatherings to 6 people with a number of important exceptions, one of which applies here. Any event which is hosted in a business premises is allowed as long as attendees are kept in groups of 6. (All other criteria still have to be met, social distancing, health and safety legislation etc) The legislation is hard to read, as we understand it a member of one group of 6 is not to ‘mingle’ with anyone outside their group of 6. Unfortunately, there is no definition of the word ‘mingle’. This puts the onus on venues and organisers to take a ‘sensible’ approach. Perhaps using the existing social distancing rules, keep 2m away with mitigating factors and 1m away with mitigation.
Venues need to comply with Core Public health guidance regarding health, hygiene and social distancing ie, the government advice is:
SPACE – Stay 2 meters apart from people you do not live with where possible, or 1 meter with extra precautions in place (such as wearing face coverings or increasing ventilation indoors). (2)
In a separate document(1) they list the sort of precautions which may be viable in different circumstances, below we have listed which of the precautions explicitly mentioned by the government we have implemented, plus additional precautions we are implementing:
Digitise check-in processes (this is being carried out by event organisers)
Redesign food services (see separate blog for this)
Effective test and trace (we are taking the contact details of all visitors to the building)
Handwashing at entrance
One-way system
Temperature checking all attendees on arrival
Enhanced cleaning regime
Disinfectant wipes, sanitisers and gloves in each room and communal areas
