Environmental Sustainability
We take sustainability seriously at Cavendish Venues and support ecological, human, and economic health and vitality.
Sustainability has been a core value since 1995.
“All our delegates love the fact that you have striven for landfill neutrality, and that your ethos has been so sustainable” - Environmental Industries Commission
Sustainability has been a core value to Cavendish Venues since our formation over 29 years ago. When we first opened in 1995 we could see the huge environmental impact of the hospitality industry. That year we were the first UK conference venue to cut disposable water bottles completely, in favour of on site water filtration. Since then, we have worked to continuously to reduce our environmental footprint.
Major initiatives include:
- Landfill Neutral Certification across all our venues, along with direct offsetting of 100% of our carbon footprint via a tree planting campaign in partnership with Country Landowners' Association, we have now planted over 2,500 trees. We continue to plant a tree for every meeting or event we host.
- Absolute commitment to our zero-to-landfill policy. Recycling routes have been established for all waste streams, including laminated exhibitor materials.
- Year-on-year reductions in all inputs (energy/water) in our meetings, conferences, and venues.
- Localisation of our supplier base to minimise carbon footprint – all meat is now sourced from a single farm less than 50km from our London venues.
- Carbon Neutral. We offset all the carbon generated by our direct operations, we are working to offset the carbon we indirectly generate, and we have invested in a carbon calculator aimed at calculating the carbon costs of travelling to our venue and producing exhibitor material.
- We also believe it’s important to have all our achievements independently verified.
- In our newest venue, The Conway, we are targeting an EPC rating of A, as well as certifications including BREEAM Excellent and NABERS 4.5-star rating.
