It’s a London thing with Cavendish Venues’ Rachel!

Our MD at Cavendish Venues, Rachel Applegate took in some wonderful London experiences last week:

Returning to work this week, I must say the last week I have made the most of London and loved every minute.

Apart from America Square having a busy week, it was my son’s 17th birthday on the Monday, so we were out to dinner at Smiths, Wapping with its amazing views of the Thames including The Shard and ambience.

Visited The V &A on Wednesday. I have not been there since I was 16! What a beautiful setting and magnificent museum. The Cristobal Balenciaga Exhibition was so interesting. I was not aware of how he influenced so many designers and shaped fashion. We had dinner there too, which I must say was scrumptious – I loved the design of the café with all the William Morris tiles and stunning chandeliers.

Thursday, I went to the London Palladium to see Suzanne Vega to enjoy Tom’s Diner and Luka, plus all her electric folk-inspired music: a real treat. Also the added bonus that I was not the oldest in the audience, unlike when I went to  the Jazz Café the other month.

Friday, visited The Shakespeare Globe to see Boudica – a new production of an ancient, historic play. The story is of an infamous women, who is a queen, a warrior and a rebel. Gina McKee was excellent in the title as Queen Boudica. I remember her in the film Notting Hill.  The setting of The Globe is right on the Southbank, with St. Paul’s Cathedral in the background. Especially later in the evening with all the lights, it’s magical – we are so lucky to live in London and have this on our doorstep.

To end my week, I volunteered at my local care home for Silver Sunday. Helped with the food, advocat, sherry  and raffle. Managed to get some of the residents dancing, to the old Cockney songs, plus others. Great to see them all enjoying themselves. To add to my London themed-week, quite a few of them are EastEnders and have such fascinating stories to tell.
