Is Oxford Circus the centre of the London Conference Industry ?

July 16, 2019

It seems to us that Oxford Circus or more precisely Fitrovia is increasingly becoming the hub of the London conference industry. A quick search on google reveals more conference spaces and meeting rooms in this postcode than any other in London. When it comes to the association sector this becomes even clearer particularly auditoriums and lecture theatres is even clearer. The reason is both the density of venues owned and operated by these sort of third sector organisations, ie RIBA, 41 Portland Place, The Kings Fund, 1 Wimpole Place etc and venues specialising in hosting events for these industries i.e 11 Cavendish Square, 20 Cavendish Square or the Medical Society of London. One of the reasons for this is the exponential growth of the healthcare and medical meetings market, a market which particularly values proximity Harley St and the density of medial professions it attracts. The Hallam Conference Centre claims that over 70% if their business comes from medical events. Its location just a few minutes from Harley Street is one reason. As is its history, the building was purpose built by the General Medical Council to fill their needs for London meeting spaces and conference rooms in London.
