Australia’s business events sector collaborating to kickstart the industry

September 18, 2020

Some positive news from the other side of the world:

Australia’s business events sector came together to attend ‘The Turn of Events, Bringing Business Events Back’ in a nationwide hub and spoke format on 16 September.

The collaboration aimed at kickstarting the business event sector in Australia and organiser Arinex’s CEO, Nicole Walker said she was proud to bring together 25 organisations to showcase business event readiness. Live and virtual events from six capital cities in Australia launched the process of reigniting the passion to 500 business event planners and associations in Australia and globally.

Keynote speaker, Patrizia Buongiorno, vice-president of AIM Group International and co-chair of the International Conference Organiser Network (INCON), spoke on global readiness, sharing examples of recent European events and how they had innovated to enable safe and practical meetings and exhibitions.

This raises a question when UK is going to kickstart business events? With recently implemented rule of 6, it feels like another blow to the conference sector. Even though work meetings and education gatherings like training courses are exempt and can still accommodate numbers of up to 30 per event, still doesn’t exactly inspire confidence in any kind of recovery. Just thinking of all the businesses already in administration or just on the edge, all the people who spent years studying events, all suppliers and contractors who worked really hard to get their small businesses off the ground… It’s been 6 months since the last face to face conferences, corporate dinners and other business events took place, it’s well overdue for our sector to start recovering and start hosting those events again!

Most of the conference centres and exhibition venues have been “SAFE” ready for months, we are ready to open our doors to larger audiences than just 30 people. Our processes have been well thought through, we’ve had months to adjust and update all procedures and we are confident we can provide safe environment for all guests attending events. Everything from enhanced cleaning to adjusted catering, signage, track and trace records, sanitising stations, staff PPE and many other precautions, we just need the government and people to start trusting us and help to kickstart the corporate events sector.
