Underground Coffee

April 23, 2013

If you come to Cavendish or Hallam Conference Centres you may think that this area of London, with its imposing buildings, embassies and stucco facades is rather august but, as it turns out, it’s also a rather trendy corner of London, as proven by the ever growing number of coffee shops and hip delis in the neighbourhood’s side streets.

The latest addition to the list is probably the most original coffee shop in London right now, called the Attendant, located in what it used to be a victorian toilet underneath Foley St. just 200 mts. from our venue in Hallam St.

After an extensive refurbishment, this Victorian toilet built around 1890 and disused for over 50 years, has been turned into a comfy cafè. What used to be the attendant’s office is now the kitchen and the original tile work and urinals have been kept as part of the decoration. They’ve even added a bench to the wrought iron street level structure and a bell so that you can ring to have your coffee served outside on sunny days.

The place itself is really cool, with a nice presentation, delicious cakes and excellent coffee. Strange as this may sound given its origins, this little shop made me feel comfortable as you can feel that it’s been looked after, the food is tremendously fresh and you feel like in harmony all together.

This is exactly the same environment we have at Cavendish Conference Venues, before it was open, it was carefully planned. We care about our product and this is the CCV trademark.
