Social Media for Events

Last week I had the opportunity to attend the Social Media for Events panel organised in London as part of Social Media Week -a series of social media related events organised across a dozen cities- which was truly interesting and provided plenty of food for thought.

For most of us, social media has not only changed the way we keep in contact with our friends and family but -without even realising- it’s also changing the way we work. This probably can be said of most businesses but it’s definitely the case for the events industry; because social interaction is at the heart of what we do.

Conferences, meetings and seminars are all about communication and social interaction, about meeting people with shared interests and about exchanging ideas. We are already working in a social space and the appropiate social media tools -Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Flickr, Pinterest- can amplify and enhance those interactions, helping us to promote our events, make them more participative and lead to lasting connections once the event is over.
