Gosh, we made it to the end of another week, two more to go, then who knows, we hopefully will be back to our wonderful  London conference venues looking after our event spaces, meeting rooms, lecture theatres, training rooms, I do hope so.

Yesterday was Shakespeare’s birthday, he composed 39 Plays, 154 sonnets, 2 long narrative poems, and a few other verses, some of uncertain authorship. His plays have been translated into every major living language and are performed more often than those of any other playwright.

Last night was World Book Night, as we are all in lock down and self- isolation with time on our hands, we need some escapism, relaxation, hence I guess you re all doing like myself and reading more? Apparently 1 in 3 adults are now reading, one good thing to come out of Covid-19.

My book club has now gone virtual and scheduled for 10.30 Saturday morning. Still have over 100 pages to read by tomorrow, my Friday night sorted! We are reading Wakenhyurst by Michelle Paver, Edwardian Gothic historical fiction, with elements of horror and madness, most entertaining, set in the fens and a little creepy, very well written.

Paver, is a British novelist and children’s writer, known for the fantasy series Chronicles of Ancient Darkness, set in pre -agricultural Stone Age Europe. For the concluding book Ghost Hunter (2009) she won the Guardian Children’s Fiction Prize, a book award judges by a panel of British children’s writers.

With all the children now at home self-schooling reading with peers, families or indeed alone is most important. It is good for their imagination, creativity, keeps them entertained and above all creates a bond.

Lina’s daughter is currently reading Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Rodrick Rules. Nicole only has another 12 to go. My son did try and read many of the series but never managed to get to the end. He has only ever finished one book, yes football related, Roy Keane’s Autobiography, he then passed it onto Dermot as thought he would enjoy the Irish connection.

World Book Night is run by The Reading Agency, a national charity that tackles life’s big challenges through the proven power of reading.
