When choosing a venue there are an impossible number of potential points to look for. Perhaps the most important one is that all your audience are actually going to be able to get to the site, into the meeting / conference or training room and then use it is a practical way. As an absolute minimum the venue has to acknowledge this, this normally take the form of a dedicated page on their website. Ideally they would have a full accessibility statement showing what they can and cannot do. This should cover:

• Different needs for different groups, the visually impaired, the physically impaired and those with hearing difficulties..
• How to get to the venues, i.e. public transport, blue badge parking spaces etc etc.
• Getting into the venues, are there steps ?, guide dog facilities etc
• Disabled toilets etc.
• How accessible are the various meeting and training rooms, door widths / lifts / signage for the visually impaired and the deaf etc.

Of course no venue can be perfect in every respect for everybody. We take the view that the it is imperative that we think carefully and respectfully in advance about the needs of all our attendees, we then provide clear and honest advice in advance as to what we can and cannot do, hopefully this will give all parties the tools to ensure the day itself passes successfully.
