BUY LOCAL INITIATIVE

November 3, 2009

It seems that every time you open a newspaper there is a story of impending environmental calamity, Kilimanjaro is melting, Greenland is becoming a potatoe field. Now is the time for the fightback, lead as ever by that most courageous of industries the conference business. Our newest innovation, the full traceabilty menu. We at Cavendish Conference Venues believe absolutely in the concept of environmentally sustainable venues. A key part of this is the sustainability of our supplier chain, the food we eat and offer our delegates is a key part of this. Following on from the spate of scandals around the British meat industry our first efforts were here. After a rigorous selection process we now source all meat from a single farm in Kent (Wells Farm) delivering the twin benefits of always knowing where are meat comes from and significantly reducing the travel costs of the product (previously much of the meat came from Scotland). Now we have built on this, we are the first uk conference centre who can offer menus using only UK grown and produced produce. We are now looking to build on this BUY LOCAL INITIATIVE by modifying our purchasing policy to make the locality of production a key determinant in all purchasing decisions. If you are a planning to organize a conference and want to support our BUY LOCAL INITIATIVE call and ask for one of our new UK sourced menus.
